I’ve got pages and pages of hand-jotted notes to process from the two-day Native Seeds/SEARCH workshop I attended over the weekend, but for now I’ll just say this: the experience was full of gems. The people who participated and shared their vast and diverse experiences were gems; the bits of knowledge I raced to collect were gems for sure. And then there was the glass gem corn, one of many kinds of plant and seed we handled, and one of my favorites. Look at those kernels: truly jewels, like strings of pearls, gleaming in deep purples, greens, and golds. Is that like any corn you’ve seen at the supermarket?
